→ About CNC Machining

CNC aluminum parts are components or products made from aluminum using CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining. Aluminum is one of the most popular materials for CNC machining due to its lightweight, durability, excellent thermal conductivity, ease of machining, and cost-effectiveness.

Our CNC aluminum parts is commonly used for:
  • Aerospace: Aircraft components, structural parts.
  • Automotive: Engine parts, chassis components.
  • Electronics: Housings, heat sinks.
  • Medical Devices: Surgical instruments, prosthetics.
  • Industrial: Machinery parts, tools, and fixtures.
CNC Machining Design Guide

In this CNC machining guide, you will learn how to create efficient, manufacturable metal parts for prototyping and production.

    CNC Aluminum Prototype

An aluminum prototype is an initial model or sample of a part or product made from aluminum, used to test and validate the design before full-scale production. Creating prototypes with aluminum is particularly beneficial due to the material’s lightweight, excellent conductivity, strong heat dissipation, high strength, and ease of machining, which can save processing time and costs.

Our aluminum prototype is commonly used for:
    • Aircraft brackets, housings, and structural components
    • Surgical instruments and diagnostic equipment
    • Automotive engine and transmission parts
    • Heat sinks and electronic enclosures

Integrated Machining Process Of Aluminum Parts

Generally, aluminum CNC machining is not a standalone production process. When short-run production needs reach hundreds or more, you need a complete solution to achieve a more efficient, accurate and cost-effective process.

When manufacturing aluminum parts, we review each project based on the complexity and manufacturability of the part, evaluate the production cost, and create a process route that meets your design and specifications.

We have combined 3-axis, 4-axis and 5-axis CNC milling, CNC turning and other manufacturing processes to expand the manufacturing capabilities of the aluminum alloy prototypes, accommodate any challenge with ease, and save time and cost. These optimized process combinations include traditional process technologies such as EDM, Wire EDM, Die Casting, Investment Casting, Aluminum Extrusion, and Forging.

    Materials for CNC Aluminum Machining

    Aluminum 6061

6061 aluminum is a precipitation-hardened aluminum alloy with magnesium and silicon as its primary alloying elements. Due to its excellent mechanical properties, weldability, corrosion resistance, and machinability, it is an ideal choice for manufacturing complex parts and is one of the most widely used aluminum alloys.

    Aluminum 6063

Aluminum 6063 is primarily composed of aluminum, with small amounts of magnesium and silicon. It has high strength, corrosion resistance, thermal conductivity, and good mechanical properties. It is easy to process and provides a good surface finish, reducing the need for extensive post-processing. It is widely used in architectural components, heat sinks, and automotive parts.

    Aluminum 6082

Aluminum 6082 is composed of aluminum, with significant amounts of magnesium and silicon. It is one of the strongest alloys in the 6000 series, offering excellent mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and good thermal conductivity. It is widely used in structural components, machinery parts, automotive parts, and marine components.

    Aluminum 7075

Aluminum 7075 is primarily composed of zinc, with small additions of magnesium and copper, making it an ultra-high strength aluminum alloy. It has excellent fatigue strength and anodic response, and it is mainly used for manufacturing aircraft structural parts and other high-stress structural components that require high strength and strong corrosion resistance. The strength of 7075 is twice that of 6061 and four times that of 6063, but its welding performance is relatively poor.

    Aluminum 2024

The main alloying element of 2024 aluminum is copper, which is why it is known as “hard aluminum.” It has very high strength, good fatigue resistance, and excellent machinability, but it has relatively poor corrosion resistance. It is widely used in aircraft structural components, rivets, missile components, truck wheels, propeller elements, and various other structural parts.

    Aluminum 5052

Aluminum 5052 alloy has good corrosion resistance and high resistance to saltwater and salt spray. It is widely used in marine vessel construction and non-critical aircraft components. Unlike some other aluminum alloys, 5052 cannot be strengthened through heat treatment.

What Factors Affect the Cost of CNC Machining Aluminum?

The main factors affecting the cost of cnc machining aluminum include design complexity, part size, material cost, and processing time.

    • Design Complexity: Complex designs with strict tolerances require more time and precision, thus increasing the cost.
    • Part Size: The larger the part, the more material is needed, and the longer the processing time, which consequently increases the cost.
    • Material Cost: Different grades of aluminum have varying prices. The raw material prices of aluminum are as follows: 7075 > 2024 > 6082 > 6061 > 6063 > 5052.
    • Processing Time: The longer the processing time, the higher the cost.
