Design Guidelines for CNC Turning
Our design guidelines include recommendations for material selection, internal and external angles, grooves, and recesses, as well as how to consider assembly requirements in part design. This helps clients avoid overly complex products, processing difficulties, and high manufacturing costs.
| US | Metric | ||
| Maximum Dimensions | Diameter | 3.93 in. | 100mm |
| Length | 31.1 in. | 790mm | |
| Minimum Dimensions | Diameter | 0.039 in. | 1.0mm |
| Length | 0.0019 in. | 0.5mm | |
| Wall Thickness | 0.0019 in. | 0.5mm | |
| Angle | 90° | 90° | |
| Tolerances | +/- 0.0004 in. | +/- 0.01mm | |
Additional Notes on CNC Turning Parts Guidelines:
- Small features may be allowed, but the diameter in any region should not be less than 0.030 in. (0.76mm).
- Sharp conical points are allowed; angles should be greater than 30 degrees. Walls thinner than 0.020 in. (0.5mm) typically do not survive the machining process.
Surface Finish Options for Precision Turned Components
The surface treatment options for precision turned parts are crucial factors to ensure functionality, aesthetics, and durability of the parts. Common surface treatments include polishing, sandblasting, and electroplating, among others. Polishing can enhance surface smoothness and reduce surface roughness, typically used for decorative parts or parts with high functional requirements. Sandblasting effectively removes surface impurities and improves surface uniformity. Electroplating involves depositing a layer of metal onto the part’s surface, enhancing surface gloss, hardness, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. Selecting the appropriate surface treatment method requires consideration of the part’s material, usage environment, and performance requirements.

What is CNC Turning?
CNC turning is a manufacturing process that involves securing a metal bar in a chuck and rotating it while pressing a cutting tool against the bar to remove excess material and create the final part. Our CNC lathes are equipped with multiple turrets, allowing for turning, drilling, milling, and threading processes to be completed on the same machine. This reduces the time needed for equipment changes and manual adjustments, enhances production efficiency, and saves on part costs.
CNC turning is widely utilized across various industries including automotive, aerospace, medical devices, electronics, and mechanical manufacturing.
